/ˈhʌɪləndri/, U.S. /ˈhaɪləndri/ The people of the Scottish Highlands; Scottish Highlanders collectively. Also: Highland character or identity.The example given by Todd in quot. 1818 is attributed to Smollett; however Smollett himself uses Highlanders ( Humphry Clinker (1771) III. 54).
