单词 hipe
释义

hipen.1

Brit. /hʌɪp/, U.S. /haɪp/
Forms: 1800s 2000s– hipe, 1800s– hype.
Origin: Apparently formed within English, by derivation. Etymon: hip n.1
Etymology: Apparently related to hip n.1, although the nature of the relationship is unclear. Compare earlier hip v.2 3.For the semantic connection with hip n.1, perhaps compare the following instructions for executing this manoeuvre:1840 D. Walker Defensive Exercises 13 Suddenly lift your adversary off the ground, and swing him and yourself round to the right; at the same instant striking the inside of his right thigh with your left knee, and pitching him with your hip.
Wrestling.
Esp. in Cumberland and Westmorland wrestling: a manoeuvre in which a wrestler lifts an adversary with both arms, often placing a knee between the thighs to throw the opponent off balance, and then swings him or her to the ground.Frequently with modifying word or phrase, as left leg hipe, right leg hipe, inside hipe, outside hipe, swinging hipe, etc.The relationship between this word and hip v.2 3 is unclear.
