单词 hery
释义

heryv.

Forms: α. Old English hęrian, hærian, hęrgan, Middle English herien, Middle English hærien, heryhe, Middle English herye, Middle English heriȝe, ( heyre), Middle English–1500s herie, herry, Middle English–1600s hery. β. [Old English hereþ, herede], Middle English hæren, huren, heoren, Middle English here.
Etymology: Old English hęrian , hærian < West Germanic *harjan, *hęrjan, Gothic hazjan to praise, glorify, extol: compare Old High German harên , Old Saxon harôn to cry, shout. In Old English, hęrian (hęrgan , hęrigan ) was conjugated, present herie (herige , herge ), herest , hereð , heriað , past herede , past participle hered ; thence in Middle English arose two types, hery , heriest , herieþ , heriede , etc., and here , herest , hereþ , herede , etc.; the latter coincided in form to some extent with hear v., with which it was apparently sometimes confused: see the quots. from Layamon.
Obsolete.
transitive. To praise, glorify, exalt, honour, worship.
