Origin: Apparently a borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element; partly modelled on a German lexical item. Etymons: Greek ἱστορία , astronomical adj.
Etymology: Apparently < ancient Greek ἱστορία history n. + -nomical (in astronomical adj.). In later use after German historionomisch (1923 in the work of Friedrich Stromer, Freiherr von Reichenbach (compare quot. 1967), or earlier). Compare earlier historionomer n. and also agronomical adj.
