Etymology: < helio- comb. form + -graph comb. form, Greek -γραϕος writing, writer.

a. Name given to an engraving obtained by a process in which a specially prepared plate is acted on chemically by exposure to light. Also attributive.The name was originally given to the process invented by Niépce de St. Victor in 1826.
