South-East Asian and South Asian.
Of a disease, food, or medicine: that warms, stimulates, or energizes the body. Also of a person's constitution: sensitive to heat; susceptible to disorders such as fever, sore throat, excessive thirst, etc. Cf. cooling adj. 3. The distinction between heaty and cooling is not determined by actual temperature but by the perceived effect of certain substances on the internal balance of heat and cold that is considered vital to health in traditional Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine.
