(at cited word) In the antient Poetry.—Heptachord Verses, were those sung or play'd on seven Chords; that is, in seven different Notes, or Tones; and probably on an Instrument with seven Strings. B. n. (a) A musical instrument of seven strings. (b) A series of seven notes, formed of two conjunct tetrachords. (c) The interval of a seventh.
