Bee, which introduced the form in August 1920 (see quot. 1920); usage in the newspaper seems to have been discontinued by the late 1940s.

1910 Sun (Baltimore) 12 Feb. 5/5 You put forth the use of ‘thon’ as a common gender word for ‘his or her’. I am interested in grammar and suggest that the word ‘hier’ would be a better one and also one more closely related to the two other words in question.
