单词 appreciable
释义

appreciableadj.

Brit. /əˈpriːʃ(ɪ)əbl/, U.S. /əˈpriʃ(i)əb(ə)l/
Origin: A borrowing from French. Perhaps also partly a borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: French appréciable ; Latin appretiare , -ble suffix.
Etymology: In senses 2a and 2b < French appréciable capable of being valued or estimated (1486 in Middle French), capable of being sensed, perceptible (1765; < apprecier , aprecier to determine the value of, to judge, evaluate (see appreciate v.) + -able -able suffix). In sense 1 perhaps directly < post-classical Latin appretiare, appreciare appreciate v. + -ble suffix: see -able suffix. Compare post-classical Latin appretiabilis assessable (11th cent.; 14th cent. in British sources), Spanish apreciable (1589 or earlier), Portuguese apreciavel (a1633), Italian apprezzabile (16th cent.). Compare later appreciate v.
