Etymology: < head n.1 + ring n.1In sense 2 rendering Zulu isicoco and its cognates in related languages. With this sense compare earlier ring n.1 7l and ring kop n.
1. A ring on top of the bridle or harness of a horse, cow, etc., to which a rein or rope may be attached. Cf. head terret n. at head n.1 Compounds 4. Obsolete.

2. Esp. in traditional Zulu society: a large ring worn on top of the head as a mark of status by adult men, and traditionally made from fibre, resin, and beeswax, and woven into the hair.
