Etymology: Apparently < the plural of ant n.1 + -y suffix1 (compare -sy suffix2), after to have ants in one's pants at ant n.1 Phrases. Earlier currency may be implied by antsy-pantsy adj.It is unclear whether the following (apparently with the same sense) should be interpreted as showing the same word (if so, it considerably antedates to have ants in one's pants at ant n.1 Phrases):1838 in Dict. Amer. Regional Eng. (1985) I. 71/2 Minard's talking & Peake's scribbling were enough to drive anyone ancey.
