Etymology: < antonym n. + -y suffix3, after French antonymie (1794; itself after synonymie synonymy n.). Compare earlier synonymy n.
The quality or fact of being antonymous; oppositeness of meaning; (as a count noun) an instance of antonymous words in juxtaposition. Also in extended use: opposition.
