Origin: A borrowing from German. Etymon: German Haptotropismus.
Etymology: < German Haptotropismus (L. Errera 1884, in Bot. Zeitung 5 Sept. 564) < ancient Greek ἅπτειν to fasten (see haptic adj.) + German -tropismus -tropism comb. form.
Botany.
The movement or directional growth of plants or plant organs (as the tendrils of climbing plants) in response to the stimulus of touch. Also called thigmotropism.
