Compare Italian Chanukkà (1637 as †hanucha in the passage translated in quot. 1650 at main sense).Compare the following earlier instance of the Hebrew word in an English context:1633 W. Balcanquhall Honour of Christian Churches 17 For the first, that the consecration and solemne dedication of Temples and Churches is very ancient, it is argument enough, that in all the three languages we have a proper word for it, in the Hebrew (Chanucah) from Chanac, which signifieth to dedicate a thing when it is finished [etc.].
