单词 armosie
释义

armosien.

Forms: pre-1700 armessie, pre-1700 armesy, pre-1700 armosee, pre-1700 armosie, pre-1700 armosy, pre-1700 ormaise, pre-1700 ormasi.
Origin: Probably of multiple origins. Probably partly a borrowing from French. Probably partly a borrowing from Italian. Etymons: French armoisy, armoisin; Italian ormisì, ormisino.
Etymology: Probably partly < Middle French armoisy (1532), variant of armoisin armozeen n., and partly < Italian †ormisì (1545), variant of ormisino, ormesino armozeen n. Compare Spanish ormesí (c1612; 1597 as †ormesines , plural; < Italian). Compare also Middle French moisy (end of the 14th cent.), in same sense; the precise relationship of this word to the other Romance names for the fabric is unclear. Compare slightly earlier armozeen n.
Scottish. Obsolete.
= armozeen n. Chiefly (and in earliest use) attributive, esp. in armosie taffeta.
