Architecture and Building.
A type of roof end consisting of a hipped top part and a gabled bottom part; (also) the hipped top part in a roof end of this kind. Frequently as a modifier, esp. in half-hip roof. Cf. half-hipped adj.Quot. 1868 might instead show half modifying hip roof (see hip roof n.).
