1. The provision of accommodation which includes an evening (or occasionally lunchtime) meal in addition to breakfast, formerly typically in rented lodgings but now more usually in a hotel. Also: the provision of meals but not accommodation by a boarding school or (formerly) an employer. Cf. full board n. 1.
