Etymology: < gum n.2 + tree n.Previous versions of the OED give the stress as: ˈgum-tree.
Any tree that exudes gum: spec. (a) any tree of the genus eucalyptus n.; (b) various species of the North American genus Nyssa; (c) the sweet gum tree of the United States, Liquidambar styraciflua.
