Any of various deep-sea ray-finned fishes of the order Saccopharyngiformes, esp. Eupharynx pelecanoides, having very large jaws that open to give an enormous gape, a long, whip-like tail, a distensible stomach, and tiny eyes near the tip of the snout. Also gulper eel.
