Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Perhaps also partly a variant or alteration of another lexical item. Etymons: green adj., -ery suffix; greeny adj.
Etymology: < either green adj. or green n.1 + -ery suffix. In use as adjective perhaps showing a (probably humorous) alteration of greeny adj., perhaps partly after the first element of greenery-yallery adj. (compare the collocation with yellow in quot. 1896 at sense B.).
