Origin: A borrowing from Sanskrit. Etymon: Sanskrit arhat.
Etymology: < Sanskrit arhat, arhant, use as noun of arhant (also with weak stem arhat) worthy, venerable, present participle of arh- to deserve.
1. Jainism. A worthy or venerable figure; spec. any of the twenty-four Jinas (cf. Jina n. 1).
