Etymology: < abbot n. + -ric suffix.In Old English usually a strong neuter; however, in late Old English a strong masculine is also attested. An (isolated) weak accusative plural abbodricen is perhaps to be expanded from the abbreviated form abbodric̄ attested in late Old English. N.E.D. (1884) gives the pronunciation as (æ·bətric) /ˈæbətrɪk/.
Obsolete (historical in later use).
