Origin: Probably a borrowing from Spanish. Probably also partly a borrowing from French. Etymons: Spanish gracioso; French gracioso.
Etymology: Probably < Spanish gracioso attractive person (not dated in dictionaries), clown or jester in stage plays (1588), uses as noun of gracioso attractive (c1200), witty, amusing (1495), specific sense developments of gracioso gracious adj. In sense 1 input from use as noun of Italian grazioso gracious adj. is perhaps also possible. In sense 2 originally via French gracioso (1747 in the passage translated in quot. 1749, or earlier).
