释义 | goodwilln. 1. Usually as two words. A virtuous, pious, or honest disposition or intention; goodness, piety, virtue. Now chiefly in of good will as a postmodifying phrase.In later use overlapping with and often indistinguishable from sense 2a.With quot. OE1 compare quots. 1535 at sense 2b and 1611 at sense 2a. In pre-Reformation versions of Luke 2:14 (translating the Vulgate) the phrase good will often has this sense. From the 16th cent. until the late 19th cent., the phrase is usually retained, but used in sense 2. From the late 19th cent., the phrase is usually replaced by other words.
