Etymology: < Golsinny, former variant of the name of a village in western Cornwall (now Goldsithney), with the first element remodelled after gold adj.The fish was first described by George Jago, vicar of Looe, Cornwall, who supplied a catalogue of rarer Cornish fish with accompanying illustrations for Ray's Synopsis Avium & Piscium (see quot. a1705 at main sense).
