Origin: A variant or alteration of another lexical item. Etymon: goldsinny n.
Etymology: Originally a misreading of or typographical error for goldsinny n. (when written with a long s), probably influenced by association with fin n.1 (the first element being apprehended as gold adj.).
Now rare.
Either of two wrasses of the eastern Atlantic and Mediterranean: the corkwing wrasse, Symphodus melops, and the goldsinny wrasse, Ctenolabrus rupestris; cf. goldsinny n.
