单词 | gothiglacial |
释义 | Gothiglacialadj. Geology. Epithet of the second of the three divisions or ‘sub-epochs’ of the Late Glacial epoch in north-western Europe, when the ice-sheet of the last glaciation retreated from the tip of the Scandinavian peninsula across southern Sweden. Also absol. Cf. Daniglacial adj., Finiglacial adj. ΚΠ 1910 G. De Geer in Geol. Föreningens i Stockholm Förhandl. 32 1146 It seems appropriate to designate as gothiglacial that part of the late glacial epoch during which the ice-border receded through Götaland—the old Gothia—from Skåne to the great moraines, crossing its northernmost provinces, Dalsland, Västergötland, and Östergötland. 1912 G. De Geer in Compt. Rend. XI Congr. Géol. Internat. I. 249 Already now I consider it possible to state that we are on the safe side assuming the whole goti-glacial sub-epoch, or the time of the ice~recession from the central parts of Skåne past the old Gotia to the Fennoskandian moraines, almost to amount to, but probably not to exceed 3000 years. 1923 G. De Geer Let. 3 Nov. in W. J. Sollas Anc. Hunters (1924) xiv. 662 I hope it will be possible to date not only the commencement of the Gothi-glacial sub-epoch but of the Dani-glacial as well, and thus to determine the whole time which has elapsed since the maximum of the last glaciation. 1927 H. Peake & H. J. Fleure Hunters & Artists i. 6 The first of these lines has been called the Daniglacial moraine, and the second the Gothiglacial, while the space between the two is known as the area of the Daniglacial retreat, and that between the second line and a third to be described is termed the area of the Gothiglacial retreat. 1957 J. K. Charlesworth Quaternary Era II. 1062 The Gotiglacial tundras of south Sweden. 1960 L. D. Stamp Britain's Struct. & Scenery (ed. 5) xiv. 170 The Gothi-Glacial was the period of the retreat of the ice across southern Sweden and lasted from about 15,000 b.c. to 9,000 b.c.
