单词 abbasid
释义

Abbasidn.adj.

Brit. /əˈbasɪd/, /ˈabəsɪd/, U.S. /əˈbæsɪd/, /ˈæbəsɪd/
Forms: 1600s Abasidae (plural), 1700s–1800s Abbasside, 1800s Abasside, 1800s Abbaside, 1800s– Abbassid, 1900s– Abbasid.
Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin Abbasidae, Abasidae.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin Abbasidae (1625 or earlier), Abasidae (1645 or earlier), plural noun < the name of al-῾Abbās b. ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib b. Hāšim (566–652), the youngest uncle of the prophet Muhammad + post-classical Latin -idae (see -id suffix3), after Arabic ῾abbāsī, adjective and noun (frequently in plural ῾abbāsīyūn; the more usual Arabic name of the dynasty is banū l-῾abbās, literally ‘sons of al-῾Abbās’). Compare French abbaside, adjective and noun (1697). O.E.D. Suppl. (1972) also gives the pronunciation of the last syllable as (-əid) /-aɪd/.
