1913 J. Lewkowitsch Chem. Technol. & Anal. Oils, Fats, & Waxes I. iii. 211 Arachidonic Acid, C₂₀H₃₂O₂. The existence of an acid of this composition is inferred from the formation of octo-bromo~arachidic acid... As Hartley has not named this acid the author suggests the term arachidonic acid.

1924 L. G. Wesson in Jrnl. Biol. Chem. 60 183 Arachidonic acid, so named by Lewkowitsch, is the tetra unsaturated, normal, aliphatic C₂₀ acid, which is present in brain tissue.

1964 J. A. Lovern in H. Barnes Oceanogr. & Marine Biol. II. 187 The mammal can convert linoleic acid..into the essential arachidonic acid (eicosa-5,8,11,14-tetraenoic acid), without which it cannot survive.
