Etymology: Either (i) < gin n.1 (compare gin n.1 5) + -y suffix6, partly influenced by the female forename Jenny (see jenny n.), or (ii) < the female forename Jenny (formerly also Jinny), influenced by gin n.1 Compare later jenny n. II.
slang. Obsolete.
A housebreaker's tool used to force open a grate or window; a crowbar. Cf. jemmy n. 6.Chiefly found in dictionaries.
