Origin: Probably either (i) a borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Or (ii) a variant or alteration of another lexical item. Etymons: Latin Arabicus , -an suffix; Arabian adj.
Etymology: Probably either < classical Latin Arabicus Arabic adj.1 + -an suffix, or an alteration (after e.g. African adj., American adj.) of Arabian adj., although some or all of the quots. may simply show compositorial or typographical errors for Arabian adj. Compare earlier Arab adj.1, Arabian adj., Arabic adj.1, Arabical adj.
