Gloger's rule (occasionally law) [translating German Glogersche Regel (B. Rensch Prinzip geogr. Rassenkreise u. Problem der Artbildung (1929) 160)] , the empirical principle that within a given species (originally of bird) the races which inhabit warmer or more humid regions are more heavily pigmented than those of cooler or drier regions.
