Etymology: < Old French aparence, -ance. The earlier form of the noun answering to adjective apparent , which was subsequently refashioned as appearance n., by assimilation to the verb appear . Apparence survived, especially in senses which connected it more closely with apparent than appear , till c1686: compare apparency n.
Obsolete.
