That turns or moves in the opposite direction to that in which the hands of a clock turn round, i.e. (from the viewer's perspective) in a circle or arc from the top down towards the left, and from the bottom up towards the right; (also) designating such a direction; = counterclockwise adj.Rare in North American use, where the usual term is counterclockwise.
