(originally) a sceptic who exposes bogus claims of paranormal activity or abilities; (now often) a person who claims to be able to eliminate or capture ghosts, poltergeists, etc.Use of the word was popularized by the U.S. comedy film Ghostbusters (1984), in which a team of paranormal investigators use special technology to capture and combat ghosts and other supernatural entities.
