Etymology: < classical Latin armiger bearing arms (see armiger n.) + -ous suffix; compare -gerous comb. form. Compare earlier armiferous adj.
Bearing, or entitled to bear, heraldic arms. Formerly also: †carrying weapons (obsolete).
