单词 ghoema
释义

ghoeman.

Brit. /ˈɡʊmə/, U.S. /ˈɡʊmə/, South African English /ˈɡʊmə/
Forms: 1900s– ghoema, 1900s– ghomma Brit. /ˈɡɒmə/, U.S. /ˈɡɑmə/, South African English /ˈɡɒmə/, 1900s– ghooma, 1900s– goema, 1900s– gomma, 1900s– gooma, 1900s– guma.
Origin: A borrowing from Afrikaans. Etymons: Afrikaans ghomma, ghoema.
Etymology: < Afrikaans ghomma, ghoema (a1884 or earlier), of uncertain origin. The Cape Malay cultural context would suggest a Malay origin, but no etymon has been traced in that language. The word has also been compared to Xhosa -ngoma kind of song ( < the same Bantu base as Swahili ngoma kind of drum: see ngoma n.), although this poses phonological as well as semantic problems and would also imply a different cultural origin of the instrument.
South African.
