Origin: Probably a borrowing from early Scandinavian.
Etymology: Probably a dialect word, of Scandinavian origin: compare Swedish (dialect) glena, Danish (dialect) glene a clear strip or patch of sky. The Old Norse mythologic name Glenr, the husband of the sun, is perhaps connected.
