Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with English elements. Etymons: Latin gena , -o- connective, mental adj.2
Etymology: Irregularly < classical Latin gena cheek (see gena n.) + -o- connective + mental adj.2, with alteration probably by association with genio- comb. form. Compare Italian geniomentale (1889 or earlier). Compare genal adj.
Obsolete. rare.
Designating a furrow in the skin of the face which extends from the lower part of the cheek towards the chin.
