Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Perhaps also partly formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: Latin genialitas ; genial adj.1, -ity suffix.
Etymology: Originally < post-classical Latin genialitas jollity (4th cent.; < classical Latin geniālis genial adj.1 + -tās (see -ty suffix1; compare -ity suffix). In later use perhaps partly also < genial adj.1 + -ity suffix.
