Etymology: < classical Latin genethlialogia art of casting nativities or horoscopes (Vitruvius) < Hellenistic Greek γενεθλιαλογία < ancient Greek γενέθλιος of or belonging to one's birth, of one's race or family (see genethliac adj.) + -λογία -logy comb. form.In form genethliology probably after other words in -ology comb. form. Compare French généthliologie (1673 in a translation of Vitruvius, subsequently chiefly in dictionaries).
The art or practice of calculating or casting horoscopes.
