Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French georgette.
Etymology: < French georgette (although this is apparently first attested slightly later: 1917, originally in crêpe georgette) < the name of Georgette de la Plante, early 20th-cent. French modiste. O.E.D. Suppl. (1972) also gives the non-naturalized pronunciation (ʒǭɹ ʒe·t) /ʒɔːˈʒɛt/.

More fully georgette crêpe. A thin semi-transparent plain-woven crêpe fabric typically made of silk.
