Etymology: < French gabionnage (1828 or earlier) < gabionner to cover with gabions (see gabionade n.) + -age -age suffix.
A structure, esp. a barricade or barrier, built from gabions (gabion n. 1a, 1b) (now rare). Formerly also: †gabions collectively (obsolete rare).
