(sometimes with capital initial) a series of tournaments organized by the International Tennis Federation, representing the lowest level of competition in men's and women's professional tennis. Also: any of the individual tournaments or matches in this series. Often (and in earliest use) attributive, as futures circuit, futures tournament, etc.So-called because the tournaments are intended to bring on and encourage potential top-level players.
