Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin Gaetūlī , -an suffix.
Etymology: < classical Latin Gaetūlī, Gētūlī, masculine plural noun (also Gaetūlus , Gētūlus , adjective; < Hellenistic Greek Γαιτοῦλοι , masculine plural noun, perhaps < a Berber form) + -an suffix; compare -ian suffix. Compare Middle French Getulien, French Gétulien (1531 or earlier).Compare Old English Geothulas Getulians ( < classical Latin Gētūlī: see above), which occurs as an ethnonym in the Old English translation of Orosius Hist.
