Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin funiliformis.
Etymology: < scientific Latin funiliformis (1815 or earlier), as if < an unattested post-classical Latin form *funīlis , adjective ( < classical Latin fūnis rope (see funis n.) + -īlis -il suffix) + -formis -form comb. form2. Compare French funiliforme (1815 or earlier).
Botany. Now rare.
Resembling a rope or cord.
