Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin funiculatus.
Etymology: < scientific Latin funiculatus (in the source of quot. 1826; 1787 as a specific name) < classical Latin fūniculus funiculus n., in its post-classical Latin botanical sense + -ātus -ate suffix2.
Now chiefly Botany.
Resembling a rope or cord (cf. funicular adj. 3). Also (of a seed or ovule): having a stalk (cf. funicle n. 2, funiculus n. 2b).
