Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin fungivorus , -ous suffix.
Etymology: < scientific Latin fungivorus (1807 or earlier; < classical Latin fungus fungus n. + -vorus : see -vorous comb. form) + -ous suffix.Compare French fongivore (1829 or earlier; 1807 or earlier as fungivore).
Of an animal: feeding on mushrooms or fungi, mycophagous; relating to or involving such feeding. Also in extended use: that enjoys eating mushrooms.
