Etymology: < classical Latin fungus fungus n. + -aceous suffix, after scientific Latin Fungaceae, order name (1835 or earlier). N.E.D. (1898) gives the pronunciation as (fɒŋgēi·ʃəs) /fʌŋˈɡeɪʃəs/.
Botany. Obsolete.
