Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin fulgidus.
Etymology: < classical Latin fulgidus shining, brilliant, in post-classical Latin also with reference to animals or plants (late 18th cent. or earlier) < fulgēre to shine (see fulgent adj.) + -idus -id suffix1. Compare Middle French fulgide (a1507 in an apparently isolated attestation). Compare earlier fulgent adj.
